How much mining power would a Bitcoin target require?

State how much BTC you want to retain and by when. Gross mining rewards, BTC spent on TH and retained BTC are different amounts.

A fictional target: 0.01 BTC in 365 days

Assume gross production of 100 sats/TH/day, BTC USD 100,000 and maintenance of USD 0.04/TH/day paid from BTC. Net production is 0.00000060 BTC/TH/day. Reaching 0.01 BTC in 365 unchanged days would require about 45.6621 TH. At a fictional USD 20/TH, power costs about USD 913.24 before purchase fees and whole-unit restrictions. A 30-day deadline would require about 555.56 TH. These are teaching inputs, not live quotes.
0.01 / (365 * (100 / 100000000 - 0.04 / 100000)) = 45.6621 TH

Test the assumptions

A 20% production drop with unchanged fees reduces net production to 0.00000040 BTC/TH/day: the one-year target needs about 68.49 TH. If net production is zero or negative, there is no finite solution under that configuration. A provider’s zero-payout protection is not positive income. Constant rates are scenarios, not forecasts across difficulty changes or a halving.

Reinvestment changes the balance at the deadline

TH reinvestment spends BTC to grow power. Compare BTC retained at the deadline, including added maintenance and initial capital; never add spent rewards back or treat a miner as BTC cash. GOM-paid fees spend a separate balance even when the BTC payout is higher. Use Day One for a starting estimate, Day Two+ PLUS for an existing fleet and Horizons for longer comparisons, subject to access. Check the reward route and source dates; saving inputs does not refresh GoMining. The related direct-BTC comparison excludes miner resale value. Neither route guarantees the target.
